Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! Poster launched in Kolkata



On the night of 20th December 1942, Japanese bombers attacked the city of Calcutta.
The Great Eastern Hotel was one of the intended targets.
CALCUTTA was "blacked-out" from sunset to sunrise the next morning.
This day marked the city's first all-night "black-out".
Kolkata, Saturday 20 December 2014: As a symbolic and fitting tribute today to a World War II air-raid in the war-torn history of Calcutta (now Kolkata), director Dibakar Banerjee along with his lead actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, released the first look poster of the upcoming film, DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY! at the Great Eastern Hotel (now The Lalit Great Eastern Hotel).



Speaking at this launch conference amidst a packed media gathering in Kolkata, Dibakar said, "In late 1942 early 1943, Calcutta was the last frontier of the British Empire, holding out against the Japanese invasion of Asia. As Jap bombs were falling on Calcutta dockyard and around The Great Eastern Hotel, history was being created and Calcutta stepped on to the world stage. It's right here that Byomkesh's first adventure catapulted him from anonymity to dangerous fame. I can't imagine a more fitting place to launch the first look of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! than this hotel - which right on this day in 1942, would be full of chaos and mayhem as bombs fell around it, right here - seventy years ago - with Byomkesh probably on the hunt for a murderer not far away!"

DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY! is based on Saradindu Bandyopadhyay's well-known and successful fictional detective, Byomkesh Bakshy and is a contemporary interpretation of Calcutta during the 1940's. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol came together to celebrate Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge‘s 1000 Weeks Of Timeless Romance! To acknowledge this remarkable accomplishment, Yash Raj Films Licensing (“YRFL”) has developed a special line of DDLJ memorabilia – all of which feature designs inspired by the iconic and beloved movie directed by Aditya Chopra.

Mardaani heads to Poland



In line with its commitment to take quality cinema to new shores, Yash Raj Films will premiere Mardaani starring Rani Mukerji in Poland on 19th January 2015. The film will open to a general release on Friday 23rd January.
Kicking off in Krakow, Warsaw, Lodz it will be scaled out to Lublin, Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Katowice with Polish subtitles.
The Polish release is also very special for this film as the film was shot by a native of Poland - Director of Photography, Artur Zurawski.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol celebrate 1000 uninterrupted weeks of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge


Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol came together yesterday at YRF Studios to celebrate the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema - Yash Raj Films’ iconic Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge directed by Aditya Chopra.

"It's been 20 years for this film and I feel honoured that I was part of this film. It's been 100 years of Indian cinema and I would say one-fifth of it belongs to DDLJ”, Shah Rukh Khan said and no one could have said it any better!

The DDLJ pair recreated the ‘DDLJ magic’ as they effortlessly recalled all their fond memories from the film, enacted scenes and recounted dialogues. It seemed like it was only yesterday that the actors worked on the movie. SRK, carrying Raj’s trademark knapsack, filled with memories still reverberating with audiences even today, along with his Simran, the ever bubbly Kajol, shared never before heard movie trivia and anecdotes about Director Aditya Chopra and Producer Yash Chopra. A spontaneous request to Pam Chopra, who was in the audience, to sing the still popular Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam, left people wanting the evening never to end.

The celebration continued with the unveiling of the very exclusive and special coffee table book written by the private and reclusive Aditya Chopra, about the making of DDLJ:

The revelry continued at Mumbai’s iconic MARATHA MANDIR CINEMA where SRK and Kajol regaled the audience in their inimitable style and interacted with a full house of DDLJ lovers who had come to fall in love again and again…! A Memento of Appreciation was also presented to the theatre.

The movie released on 20th October 1995 and is in its 20th year of uninterrupted run.
