Rishi Kapoor, Ayushman & Sonam in YRF’s next project

Is living on love and fresh air really possible?

Passionately in love Mohit Chadhdha (Ayushman) and Mayera Sehgal (Sonam), strongly believe it is. But Mayera’s wilful bureaucrat father, V.K. Sehgal (Rishi Kapoor), vehemently disagrees.
Who gets the last laugh in this slice-of life Delhi-comedy when recession strikes and the lack of money tests love... credit-card-junkies private-sector Mohit-Mayera; or safe-playing sarkari, V.K. Sehgal?
This fun-filled satire has been written by the versatile writer/director Habib Faisal and Produced by Aditya Chopra, and will be directed by Nupur Asthana. This is her second film for the Studio, after her successful directorial debut last year with Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, under the Y Films banner.
The untitled film has Rishi Kapoor, Ayushman Khurana and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles. This is both Ayushman and Sonam’s first film with YRF.

The film is expected to go on floor in February and is slated for a 2013 release.

As the infamy of these two renegades spread far and wide... the People of this sprawling city started calling these two happy-go-lucky rebels... GUNDAY.

Taran Adarsh Reviews Jab Tak Hai Jaan - Bollywood Hungama

Ratings: 4/5

After a wait of eight long years, the master storyteller, the most admired and revered director of our times, Yash Chopra, returns with his new motion picture. Regrettably, JAB TAK HAI JAAN happens to be the last film of one of the greatest raconteurs of our times...

Yash Chopra is synonymous with love and romance and also spellbinding drama and heartrending emotions. Is synonymous with harmonious music and exquisite poetry and also snow-capped mountains and mustard fields. Is synonymous with waterfalls and rains and also Switzerland and Punjab. And so much more... JAB TAK HAI JAAN encompasses everything that one has come to expect from a Yash Chopra movie. This time, it's a brand new setting, but the journey remains the same as his previous love stories -- just as the lead man and his lady love sprint towards each other from opposite directions, to cuddle each other lovingly, you're told that the romantic pathway is crammed with thorns and spikes [a quick clarification: all this talk of JAB TAK HAI JAAN being a present-day avatar of Yash Chopra's DAAG is absolutely unfounded].

For the hardcore romantics, this one's a treat. But those who *don't* swear by love stories, I am certain, will be able to connect with this film, since the twists and twirls in the screenplay are sure to allure those yearning for something captivatingly distinctive.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN is a poignant voyage of three characters. Thankfully, not once does the script or the writers [Aditya Chopra and Devika Bhagat] permit any penetration of superfluous or redundant characters or sub-plots that would've only led to puzzlement. Every episode transpires for a persuasive reason. Besides, the drama is absolutely intriguing, with an undercurrent of emotions running through the length and breadth of the film, thereby adding intensity to this passionate love story.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN is not your typical love story. It has the old-world charm written all over it, with twists and turns plenty. It would be a disservice if one were to reveal the journey of the three principal characters -- Samar, Meera and Akira -- since the plot changes from conventional to unconventional in its second hour.

JAB TAK HAI JAAN is attention-grabbing from inception till conclusion. The drama only soars higher and the complex love story gets more and more gripping as the conflict between the characters come to the fore. Mind you, JAB TAK HAI JAAN is not the usual 'love triangle', with two women fighting for the same guy. Nor can you compare it with any Yash Chopra film of yore either.

Yash Chopra's brilliancy and vividness is apparent in a number of sequences. And it echoes throughout the film. The poignant moments keep you on the periphery, while the culmination to the narrative may meet with extreme reactions. However, I strongly feel, the conclusion is most befitting for a film that doesn't take the beaten to death pathway. The only hiccup is that it gets too slow-paced at times. Also, the screenplay could've been tighter at places. A few sequences in the post-interval portions could've been spruced up for a stronger impact.

When Yash Chopra, A.R. Rahman and Gulzar join hands for a film project, the expectations are gargantuan. Its music has to meet the lofty expectations. Chopra Sr.'s music has had an eternal impact, but the songs here aren't of that towering calibre that you would anticipate from a Yash Chopra movie. Yet, the melodies that merit a mention are 'Challa', 'Saans' and 'Jiya Re'. While on music, the music piece and its choreography in the first hour deserve brownie points.

The DoP [Anil Mehta] and the production designer give the film a radiant look that befits a classic. The cinematography is surreal, grandiose and simply overwhelming. The vibrant frames add to the magnificence of this already spectacular looking film. The costume designers too come up with a wardrobe that's brimming with stunning outfits.

Event films such as JAB TAK HAI JAAN are, generally, embellished with seasoned actors. That's one of the fundamental reasons why these films appear so tempting. In addition, assembling such accomplished names [in lead roles as also supporting characters] is a rarity and there's a strong possibility that one may not see them sharing screen space ever again.

One can't imagine anyone else but Shah Rukh in the role of Samar. An individual with an emotional baggage. Although Shah Rukh has been an integral part of several romantic movies, he enacts it resplendently in JAB TAK HAI JAAN, brushing off any condemnation that he may have encountered for replicating himself in movies of parallel genre. The role gives the actor abundant opportunity to exhibit his talent and I must add, Shah Rukh transforms himself into the complex character with dexterity.

Katrina is the classic Yash Chopra heroine. An enigmatic beauty, who doubles up as a seductress [watch her in the 'Saans' track or the music piece]. She looks ethereal and enacts her part with elegance and restraint. As a matter of fact, she glides into her part with effortlessness and acts out some of the difficult moments with flourish. In view of the fact that a major portion of the story focuses on SRK and Katrina, one might assume that Anushka's role is more of a supporting one, but that's entirely fallacious. She's an integral part of this story and it must be said that she walks away with some of the best scenes and lines in the movie. Her performance is full of grit.

Rishi and Neetu Kapoor are endearing in a cameo. Anupam Kher, also in a cameo, pitches in a neat performance as Katrina's father. Sarika is first-rate in a pivotal part.

On the whole, JAB TAK HAI JAAN resonates an oft-repeated fact: Love stories will come and go. But no one will make them like Yash Chopra. Just don't miss this heartwarming love story!

    Shah Rukh Khan launches “Saans”

After successfully impressing the audiences with their first track “Challa”, the next song that has gone viral is the new romantic number “Saans”. Launched by none other than Shah Rukh Khan himself, on the 9th of October 2012, the track is slow and sensuous, featuring him and Katrina in a romantic avatar for the first time. The King of Romance aptly described the song as the breath of love in an exclusive launch at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.
Composed by grand maestro A.R. Rahman and vocals by Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan, the song is indeed a delight. The cherry on the cake is the lyrics by the eminent Gulzaar Sahab. “Saans” is in true sense, a fresh breath of air for the romantic audience.

Aniruddha Guha reviews Ek Tha Tiger — an action extravaganza

    Rating: *** 1/2

The action is riveting, the stunts breathtaking and the plot racy. In the midst of it all is Salman Khan, Hindi cinema's poster boy for escapist entertainment. After having acted in some good, bad and terrible films for over two decades, Salman Khan's Chulbul Pandey regaled masses inDabangg, Abhinav Kashyap's quirky take on the masala genre. This was soon after Wanted brought audiences back to single screen cinemas.
Since then, it's been one monstrous hit after another, including films that had little going for themselves other than the not-so-towering presence of Khan. Most of these — Wanted first, and then Ready and Bodyguard —have been poorly written, are haphazardly put together and have more or less followed a simple formula — piggyback on the 'bhai' persona, and play to the gallery.
Ek Tha Tiger is similar in some ways — it's a film that presents Salman as a larger-than-life, superhero-esque secret agent. There's action, music and a plot that is tailored to satiate Khan fans looking to get off on his antics.
But, surprise surprise. Director Kabir Khan doesn't leave things to theSalman factor alone. He banks on it, no doubt, with his film exploiting the actor's persona to the hilt, but makes sure he makes it a spectacle of it. "I'll show you how to do it" - his film arrogantly seems to be telling filmmakers chasing multiple crore figures and box office records. There's style, there's slickness, and there's an ingredient almost entirely missing from most other Salman films - wit.
Tiger's a RAW agent - the best there is. The film opens with a well put-together action sequence shot on the outskirts of Iraq. Tiger kills a bunch of agents after bumping off one of his own men, who defected to Pakistan'sISI.
Back home, he's yearning to go back on another mission. He's assigned to follow acclaimed science expert Professor Kidwai in Dublin, believed to be sharing nuclear secrets with Pakistan. There, Tiger meets Zoya and the expected happens. The two fall in love. But the revelation of Zoya's true identity throws things out of gear. Can a spy afford romance? And what if the person might be the enemy?
The narrative is linear. Kabir Khan keeps the storytelling simple and the runtime short. The film, if anything, gets over before you expect it to. Designed to be a two hour-long adrenaline rush, Ek Tha Tiger doesn't pause for breath. There's very little excess, almost not a single scene out-of-place and the editing watertight. The first half is mostly driven by humour and romance, the scenes between Tiger and Zoya setting up the explosive action that follows.
Hindi cinema's tryst with the spy genre has been scattered. Dharmendra'sAankhen, Jeetendra's Farz, Mithun Chakraborthsy's Surakshaa and theMahender Sandhu-starrer Agent Vinod all met with varied success, beforeSridhar Raghavan's tongue-in-cheek take on the latter earlier this year. All of them had 'khufiya agents', 'dushman-e-mulk' and double crossing femme fatales.
Where Ek Tha Tiger works is the balancing act - it's a full-blown Hindi film, with desh prem, farz and mohabbat all a part of the recipe. But Kabir Khan treats the film like a stylised Hollywood thriller, never getting into graver issues, but using the set-up as a tool to regale. His plot takes the characters to some of the most exotic locales around the world ala James Bond, each of them woven into the screenplay. Ireland is where Tiger andZoya meet, before reuniting in Turkey and then taking off to Cuba.
A spectacularly put together action sequence in Havana - probably the best you have seen in a Hindi film - is enough to get back your money's worth. Expertly choreographed and stylishly executed, it delights you with its clever stunts as much as it does with humour. Sample this: Having landed in a house inhabited by an old couple in-between a chase sequence, Tiger struggles to open the exit door to the apartment. The old man calmly gets up, and opens the latch to let Tiger and Zoya out.
Ek Tha Tiger, at the end of the day, is an out-and-out Salman Khan film. But it's the rare well-made one. It's escapist, but it has style. Go watch.

Benny Dayal, Rap by: Ranveer Singh

Bach ke zara... zara shaitaaniyan meri
    Oh ladies... oh ladies
Kar ke zara... zara beimaaniyan meri
    Oh ladies... oh ladies
    Karoon seena zori seena zori
    Tumhein ho na ho manzoor
Phir dil ki chori dil ki chori
    Hai mera kya kasoor
    Kya karoon o ladies...
    Kya karoon o ladies
    Main hoon aadat se majboor
    Kya karoon o ladies
    Main hoon aadat se majboor
    Huzoor... huzoor
    Main hoon aadat se majboor

    Seedha nahin tedha
    Bio data mera
    Lipstick se likhna hai mujhe
    Har ik haseena ke
    Bank account ke
    Debit mein dikhna hai mujhe
    Zara ji hazoori ji hazoori
    Main karta hoon zaroor
Phir dil ki chori dil ki chori
    Hai mera kya kasoor
    Kya karoon o ladies…
    Kya karoon o ladies
    Main hoon aadat se majboor
    Kya karoon o ladies
    Main hoon aadat se majboor
    Huzoor... huzoor
    Main hoon aadat se majboor

    Aankhon ke neeche se
    Kaajal chura loon main
    Aisi safayi hai meri
    Entry hai phoonk si
    Exit toofan hai
    Yeh munh dikhayi hai meri
    Kholoon har tijori har tijori
    Haah main toh hoon mashhoor
Phir dil ki chori dil ki chori
    Hai mera kya kasoor
    Kya karoon o ladies…
    Kya karoon o ladies
    Main hoon aadat se majboor

    Happy Birthday Yashji!

On this joyous occasion of Yash Chopra's 79th birthday, we take a look back into time with one of Yashji's most memorable movie, Veer Zaara..

    • Director Yash Chopra had begun work on a script, and had even completed casting, when Aditya Chopra, came up with the story of VEER-ZAARA (’04), as a vehicle for him to return to his Punjabi roots. Yash Chopra heard just three scenes of the film, and decided to make it.
    • Yash Chopra began his career as a director with DHOOL KA PHOOL (’59) and Lata Mangeshkar had lent her voice for the film, after which they worked together ina  number of films. 45 years after they first worked together, while directing VEER-ZAARA (’04), Yash Chopra approached her again and convinced her, that between them and the tunes of late Madan Mohan, they could create magic and the songs of this film could become legendary
    • For the lead role, Yash Chopra wanted to cast a girl whose entire personality could be transformed from her existing image. He chose Priety Zinta, because she had always been presented as tomboyish and westernized. He took about four – five screen tests, before signing her on. Rani Mukherjee’s character, Saamiya Siddiqui, is based on Pakistani human rights activist and well-known lawyer, Asma Jehangir.
    • When Yash Chopra approached Amitabh Bachchan, to do a cameo in VEER-ZAARA (’04), he was shooting for AB TUMHARE HAWALE WATAN SAATHIYON (‘04) in Chandigarh. He agreed immediately, because of his friendship with Yash Chopra and shot his portion of the film.
    • The film was originally going to be called YEH KAHAAN AA GAYE HUM, named after the song from Yash Chopra’s film, SILSILA (’81), but Yash Chopra felt that ‘VEER-ZAARA’ went better with the mood of the film. However, there’s a song in VEER-ZAARA (’04) which is called "Yeh hum aa gaye hain kahaan."
And indeed, Veer Zaara was a true Yash Raj masterpiece!

Don't forget to wish Yashji in the comments section below :)

DDLJ - Tom Cruise - Kajol and more...

Director Adi Chopras first choice for the hero of this film was not Shah Rukh, but none other than Tom Cruise!
That was because initially, the film was meant to be an English film, and the story was a love story between an Indian girl and an American boy who meet in Europe. But later, it was decided that, the same story would be made in Hindi, and Shah Rukh Khan was cast as the hero.

Also, In the last scene of the song, Ruk ja, Shah Rukh drops Kajol on the floor. Remember?
Shah Rukh and director Adi Chopra had not told Kajol about this shot, so that they could capture a genuine reaction from her. Kajols shocked expression was a real one in the movie, and she claims she got hurt when she was dropped. She was angry for a while and refused to speak to them, but they patched up within a day.

Yash Chopra to collaborate with the music maestro A. R. Rahman

50 years of being an unparalleled industry icon.

40 years as head of the most revered studio in the country.

Director of some of the most heart-warming and celebrated movies of our times..

yrf is very proud to announce our next project directed by Yash Chopra.

Also, for the first time, Yashji and A. R. Rahman have come together for the music of this project. It is indeed a special announcement of two industry stalwarts collaborating on a film.

Speaking on this, Yash Chopra was effusive in his praise for the talented music director. "I am starting work on the music of my as yet untitled film with the very talented Rahman. Apart from the great honour that he has consistently brought to our country, he is also someone that has created some outstanding and memorable music, something which is very important and dear to me and my films. I am looking forward to creating some wonderful music combining Rahman's contemporary world music sensibilities and my old world sensibilities of lilting melodies."

    A. R. Rahman, while speaking about working with Yashji for the first time said, "I am very excited to work with Yashji and I am humbled by his faith in me for his film. I have seen that Yashji always portrays music as the inevitable essence of love and divinity in his movies. I hope as a team we can bring tremendous joy to all."

On the various conjectures about the cast for his movie, Yashji also said, "Everyone knows that when I make a movie, Shahrukh will be involved with it. He is like family to YRF and I have always regarded him as one of my own. There will be two leading ladies in my film. Once Adi gives me the final draft of the script, I will finalise the two girls who will be cast along with Shahrukh."
