Mere Brother Ki Dulhan: Creating a storm in India and worldwide!

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has been the talk of the town, not only in India but all over the world as well, as fantastic reviews have kept pouring in ever since the release of the movie.

Here are a few excerpts from some of the international reviews:

  • "It's a stylish Bollywood crowd-pleaser with a provocative subtext revealing the toll exacted by those craving happiness but seemingly hamstrung by tradition and propriety," said the Los Angeles Times.

  • "Engaging leads, high-end production values, energetic musical numbers and a familiar story should ensure healthy biz" for the film, said Variety magazine.

  • The New York Times says "Written and directed with a sure hand and the occasional witty touch by Ali Abbas Zafar, 'Mere Brother' spends most of its 145 minutes hitting Bollywood's sweet spot: a wedding."

"This Yash Raj Films production entertains, but the brittle Kaif keeps it earthbound," it says. "Her dimple is brash all right, but her antics are more grating than convincing. Styled as open and self-possessed, she lacks one essential quality: charm."

At the home front, the praise hasn't been been any less:
  • "The music by Sohail Sen has already become popular and comprises chartbusters like Madhubala and Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai amongst others. All in all, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan holds out a promise for a pleasant weekend viewing", says the Times Of India.

  • Zee News reports, "Overall, ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ touches the right chord and doesn’t overkill the fun. The screenplay and narrative is tight and crispy and some great performances by Imran, Katrina and Ali are the USP of the film. ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ is a great watch this weekend! Four cheers for this one!"

  • "The mood and feel of the film shuttle smoothly between life and larger than life. It has got real Delhi street scuffles and also a girl strumming an electric guitar without any cords in front of the Taj Mahal. You don’t mind either. ", by The Telegraph (Kolkata).

  • Koimoi wrote, " The entertaining screenplay; the emotional undercurrent of the drama; Katrina Kaif’s fantastic performance; the hit music and the eye-pleasing song picturisations."

If you still haven't seen the movie, well what are you waiting for??

Ali Zafar speaks his mind about Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Ali Zafar aka Luv Agnihotri, plays the character of Imran Khan's brother in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, who wants to get married by Diwali! This multi-talented star has received a lot of praise from critics as well as audiences for his portrayal of the suave, charming elder brother. Here are some interesting answers from his interview

Q. Tell us about your character in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
The character that I'm playing is Luv. Luv is Kush's brother and they have a very interesting relationship with each other. Luv is a little loud, a little flamboyant, with the history of... not having had many good relationships with his ex's. Luv - jiska character main play kar raha hoon, ek bahut hi maze ka... interestingly maze ka, ajeeb sa, ajeebo-garib sa... playful bhi hai, thoda confused bhi hai, ekdum se focus bhi ho jata hai ki use kya chahiye zindagi mein.

Q.  Your experience on Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.
Mere nazdik, sabse zyada jo cheez matter karti hai woh hain log, jo us log se jude hue hote haih, us project se jude hue hote hain. Yahan par bhi jo log isse jude hue the, woh achhe log hain saare, toh isliye kaam karne ka mazaa bhi aata hai… dil se insaan ek adaakar ka kaam karta hai.

Q. Your experience while shooting across Indian cities.
Mere liye woh experience bahut hi yaadgaar experience tha because maine Punjab pehli dafa dekha. Chandigarh mein jab gaya, toh wahan ke khet khaliyan balki ek jagah pe mujhe yaad hai- us din mera shoot toh nahin ho paya or uska mujhe faayda hi hua - us time mein maine baithe baithe do-teen composition or gaane bana liye, likh liye. different jagah par jaa ke, different culture dekhna, Delhi Mosque jaana, aur different jagahon par janaa... har jahah ka ek mukhtalif culture hai. Shooting ke dauran, mere khayaal mein… woh kya tha, hotel ajeeb sa… Patiala... haan wahan bada maza aaya kyunki unke bahar ek cricket ground toh nahin, ground bana hua tha toh wahan par maine jab Ali Abbas Zafar ko, teen ballon pe teen chakke jo lagaye toh tabse bada maza aana shuru ho gaya tha. Sabne cricket kheli saath mein.

Q. Your experience while shooting with co-star Katrina Kaif.
What I really like about her is that she is very very hard working and professional, very sorted when it comes to her work… Aur bahut intelligent hai actually… so yeh cheez mujhe bahut bhaayi unki, aur I think this film is very important film for her and it will also show on the screen. In all honesty, I do think... I do think that its her film, in a way, the way her character and the way she is portrayed it, its fantastic...

Q. Your experience while shooting with co-star Imran Khan.
He doesn’t make things difficult, he makes things easier and a lot of fun to work with so I feel very lucky that I got to work with Imran.
We worked as friends, as brothers and had a great time. He had a lot of interesting facts to share… because Imran is all about lot of facts so... obviously lot of interesting conversations and we also shared lots of iPhone apps.

Q. Your experience shooting the Madhubala song
Madhubala mein decision liya gaya ke kaunsa woh aisa din ya waqt ki actor-actress ko bulaaya ya nachaaya jaaye... ki jab woh bilkul khatam ho jaayein. Toh decide kiya gaya June July ki garmi honi chahiye aur dopahar ka outdoor shoot hona chahiye, aur 4-5 din mein shoot hona chaahiye. Toh aise hi hua.. shidatt garmi thi or main jaise ki... matlab actor toh chhodiye door ki baat hai, dancer-wancer bhi bas theek hi hoon. Toh usmein jo Madhubala ka jo dance tha maine 2 din rehearsal ki, thanks to Bosco-Caeser ki woh thoda bahut usne haath pair chalana sikha diye thhe toh shoot ke dauran bahut mazaa aaya kyunki woh bhaang-waang pee ke gaana karna tha.

Q. Why should one go and see Mere Brother ki Dulhan?
Theater me jaayenge, line lagi hogi bahot lambi, film ke baaher seat nahi milegi, 5-6 roz baad seat milegi,  baithenge log sitiya-vitiya maarenge or aapko hasna padega bahot zyada, enjoy karke wapis aajaayenge, kya maza aayega or fir dosto ko bataaenge yaar film dekhne zaroor jana (Laughs)

How to do the Dabanngg step

So have you been wondering how Imran perfected Salman's iconic belt-loop step in the title track from Mere Brother Ki Dulhan as well? Well, we just found out the secret, and here it is!!!

Turns out it's just a matter of six simple, easy-to-follow steps! This drawing has been made by our very own budding young artist, Sonu, who's just 9 years old!

1. Square your shoulders, put a wide smile on your face and get ready to do the Dabangg step.
2. Put hands on belt and loop thumbs through belt loops.
3. Pull right loop up and left loop down at the same time.
4. Repeat step by doing the same the other way with the belt loops.
5. Move from side to side and keep repeating step.
6. And you're rocking the move!!!! Congratulations!!

Share this with all your friends and pass on the awesome-ness!

The Making of the title track of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan - All work, more play!

The romantic in us believes that love awaits us at every corner. She may be the girl standing next to you at a grocery store; she may be that girl you smile at as you enter church every morning. You can find love anywhere; for yourself and for your loved one.

And as Imran Khan sat at the airport, finding his ‘brother ki dulhan’ this was all that he could think of. The making of the of the title track of the soon-to-be released ‘Mere Brother ki Dulhan’ starring Imran Khan, Ali Zafar and Katrina Kaif shows us what actually took place behind the making of a song and all the hardwork and efforts put in by the entire cast and crew.

In the opening shot of the title song, Imran Khan waits at the airport and suddenly slips into fantasy-mode, imagining one of the air-hostesses to suddenly transform into the ideal Indian bride, in the traditional attire. And thus begins the song ‘Mere brother ki dulhan’ that transforms itself into a travel song; these locations were specifically chosen and the shooting did indeed take place on the busy streets of Delhi and on top of a bus and train.

The lyrics and the choreography add to the fun element in the song. The famous choreographer duo of Bosco and Caesar explain how they decided to pay a tribute to the three Khans – Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman through the title song of ‘Mere brother ki dulhan’. You have Aamir’s famous 'Masti ki paathshaala' step, Salman’s crazy belt-loop step and the now legendary train dance by Shah Rukh; all of these performed by Imran Khan who describes the making of the song as “my craziest experience so far”.

Check out the video below!

Imran's charming tribute to the 3 Khans

Word has been spreading pretty fast of the fantastic cast and super exciting trailer of one of the most highly anticipated release of the year, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. Audiences have another nice surprise in store for them since the title track is now finally out and it’s sure to be another chart-buster from Yash Raj films, whose movies are usually well-known for having exceptional music, soothing tunes and hummable tracks.

The Mere Brother Ki Dulhan title track has been shot widely across India including Mumbai, Dehradun and Delhi and features Imran Khan, who is on the lookout for his brother’s perfect bride. The lyrics are catchy, the music is fast-paced, and Imran Khan’s dancing is his best so far, as he pays a tribute toBollywood’s three superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.

The song uses the three modes of transportation – air, road and train in a very interesting and captivating style, in his hunt for his brother’s dulhan. It’s indeed delightful to watch Imran charming his way on screen with steps from Aamir’s famous ‘masti ki paathshala’ steps, to Salman’s Dabangg belt move and his towel step, and of course Shah Rukh’s “Chaiyya chaiyya” atop the train.

The song is definitely going to leave its mark on people’s minds and hearts for quite a long time now.
