Shah Rukh Khan launches “Saans”

After successfully impressing the audiences with their first track “Challa”, the next song that has gone viral is the new romantic number “Saans”. Launched by none other than Shah Rukh Khan himself, on the 9th of October 2012, the track is slow and sensuous, featuring him and Katrina in a romantic avatar for the first time. The King of Romance aptly described the song as the breath of love in an exclusive launch at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.
Composed by grand maestro A.R. Rahman and vocals by Shreya Ghoshal and Mohit Chauhan, the song is indeed a delight. The cherry on the cake is the lyrics by the eminent Gulzaar Sahab. “Saans” is in true sense, a fresh breath of air for the romantic audience.

Darr trivia: Did you know?

Shahrukh Khan has acted in more than 70 films and Sunny Deol has done nearly 80 films. Sunny made his debut in 1983 with BETAAB, and Shahrukh made his debut in 1992 with the hit film DEEWANA. DARR (’93) is the only film till date which Shahrukh and Sunny have done together. Allegedly, Sunny was asked whether he would like to play the role of Rahul Mehra or Sunil Malhotra, and he chose Sunil’s character.

The title - DARR , was already registered by Shyam Ramsay and Tulsi Ramsay, for a horror film they were planning to make. Yash Chopra requested them give him the title, and the Ramsay’s agreed. Yash Chopra’s sons Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra got the idea of making this film, after they saw DEAD CALM (’89), starring Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill, and Billy Zane.

Happy Birthday Yashji!

On this joyous occasion of Yash Chopra's 79th birthday, we take a look back into time with one of Yashji's most memorable movie, Veer Zaara..

  • Director Yash Chopra had begun work on a script, and had even completed casting, when Aditya Chopra, came up with the story of VEER-ZAARA (’04), as a vehicle for him to return to his Punjabi roots. Yash Chopra heard just three scenes of the film, and decided to make it.
  • Yash Chopra began his career as a director with DHOOL KA PHOOL (’59) and Lata Mangeshkar had lent her voice for the film, after which they worked together ina  number of films. 45 years after they first worked together, while directing VEER-ZAARA (’04), Yash Chopra approached her again and convinced her, that between them and the tunes of late Madan Mohan, they could create magic and the songs of this film could become legendary
  • For the lead role, Yash Chopra wanted to cast a girl whose entire personality could be transformed from her existing image. He chose Priety Zinta, because she had always been presented as tomboyish and westernized. He took about four – five screen tests, before signing her on. Rani Mukherjee’s character, Saamiya Siddiqui, is based on Pakistani human rights activist and well-known lawyer, Asma Jehangir.
  • When Yash Chopra approached Amitabh Bachchan, to do a cameo in VEER-ZAARA (’04), he was shooting for AB TUMHARE HAWALE WATAN SAATHIYON (‘04) in Chandigarh. He agreed immediately, because of his friendship with Yash Chopra and shot his portion of the film.
  • The film was originally going to be called YEH KAHAAN AA GAYE HUM, named after the song from Yash Chopra’s film, SILSILA (’81), but Yash Chopra felt that ‘VEER-ZAARA’ went better with the mood of the film. However, there’s a song in VEER-ZAARA (’04) which is called "Yeh hum aa gaye hain kahaan."
And indeed, Veer Zaara was a true Yash Raj masterpiece!

Don't forget to wish Yashji in the comments section below :)

Exclusive! DDLJ & Shahrukh Khan Trivia. :)

DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE broke all records. It is the first Hindi film to have run for more than 750 weeks (and still running), which is a run of about 15 years.
The film also created waves at Filmfare Awards winning 10 Awards across various categories. It also won the prestigious National Award for providing wholesome entertainment.
But, did you know, Shah Rukh Khan thought that playing the character of Raj was going against the image he had created in those days with BAAZIGAR and DARR. Director Adi Chopra thought he would do justice to the role, and convinced Shahrukh to do the film. This film changed Shah Rukh’s image to that of a romantic hero, and he thinks of this film as his launch film.

When we talk of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, we cannot miss this song.

The Making of the title track of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan - All work, more play!

The romantic in us believes that love awaits us at every corner. She may be the girl standing next to you at a grocery store; she may be that girl you smile at as you enter church every morning. You can find love anywhere; for yourself and for your loved one.

And as Imran Khan sat at the airport, finding his ‘brother ki dulhan’ this was all that he could think of. The making of the of the title track of the soon-to-be released ‘Mere Brother ki Dulhan’ starring Imran Khan, Ali Zafar and Katrina Kaif shows us what actually took place behind the making of a song and all the hardwork and efforts put in by the entire cast and crew.

In the opening shot of the title song, Imran Khan waits at the airport and suddenly slips into fantasy-mode, imagining one of the air-hostesses to suddenly transform into the ideal Indian bride, in the traditional attire. And thus begins the song ‘Mere brother ki dulhan’ that transforms itself into a travel song; these locations were specifically chosen and the shooting did indeed take place on the busy streets of Delhi and on top of a bus and train.

The lyrics and the choreography add to the fun element in the song. The famous choreographer duo of Bosco and Caesar explain how they decided to pay a tribute to the three Khans – Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman through the title song of ‘Mere brother ki dulhan’. You have Aamir’s famous 'Masti ki paathshaala' step, Salman’s crazy belt-loop step and the now legendary train dance by Shah Rukh; all of these performed by Imran Khan who describes the making of the song as “my craziest experience so far”.
